What is pesto?

Pesto, or Pesto alla Genovese, is a sauce originating from Genoa, the capital city of Liguria, Italy. It traditionally consists of crushed garlic, pine nuts, salt, basil leaves, and Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino Sardo, all blended with olive oil.
