Description

Safflower is more familiar to westerners as the source of vegetable oil, but the petals of the native American plant make a pleasant tasting tea. Dried Safflower can be used in recipes in place of saffron as a much less expensive substitute (it is also known as "false saffron").

The tea can be brewed with the petals for a mild, slightly sweet flavour. It's also said to have medicinal properties including aiding digestion and calming nerves. Try it for yourself and see! 

Safflower tea is easy to make - just steep one teaspoon of dried petals in a cup of boiling water for approximately five minutes.
